Aurora (November 11)- Ms. Pae and Mr. Batt’s fourth grade classes were treated to a visit from U.S. Army Specialists Andy Lee and Peter Nguyen. Both are in active duty and stationed at Ft. Carson in Colorado Springs. Specialists Lee and Nguyen recently returned from a yearlong tour in Iraq.

Some of the questions asked by the fourth graders were, “What did it sound and smell like in Iraq?”, “How dirty was it in Iraq?”, “What were the sand storms like?”, “Did you hear any rockets go off?”, and “Did you blow up a lot of cars?”.

A lot of the fourth graders got to try on some army gear. They had a great time wearing helmets and flack jackets. Specialist Nguyen demonstrated the use of a glow stick. Specialist Lee brought along a meal bag (MRI) and shared some army-issued candy (M&Ms).

The fourth graders displayed respect during the visit and they were thoroughly enthralled by their guests. Specialist Nguyen stayed for most of the day. He played with the kids at recess and had lunch with them. Specialists Nguyen and Lee told Ms. Pae, “We had the best time, ever!”
